Layers
A tooth has four layers. The treatment depends on how deep the problem goes.
02 under the enamel
Dentine
Dentine feels cold and sweet. This is where decay has to be stopped before it goes deeper.
03 at the centre
Pulp
The nerve and blood vessels of the tooth. When the pulp is inflamed, we treat it under the microscope, canal by canal.
04 below the gum
Bone
The root sits in the bone. When a tooth is missing, the implant is planned on a CT scan of the bone.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the first visit at Smalț?
The first visit is the diagnosis and costs £395. It includes the examination, the 3D CT scan (CBCT), photographs and a written treatment plan, sent by email within 48 hours.
Why does everything start with a 3D CT scan?
A regular X-ray shows teeth in two dimensions. A CBCT scan shows the bone in three: its height and thickness, the canals and the nerves. Implants and complex root canal treatments are planned on it.
Do I get the price before treatment starts?
Yes. The written plan contains the full price of each option, with what it includes and what it does not. Treatment starts only after you have read it and chosen an option.
Can I be treated under sedation?
Conscious sedation is an option for patients with strong anxiety or for long procedures. The dentist recommends it after the diagnosis, based on your medical history.
Do you treat patients from abroad?
Yes. You can choose the clinic in London, Bucharest or Dubai. The written plan, the prices and the treatment documents are available in English, and the stages are scheduled around the number of trips that suits someone travelling from another country.
